Internationally acclaimed Sreeram Chandra to headline Vodacom Indian Idols concert in Durban

Thursday, 25 November 2010

Sreeram Chandra, the winner of Indian Idols 5 and the first South Indian to win the Indian Idols title will headline the exciting Vodacom Indian Idols Generation Next concert at the International Convention Centre in Durban on 27 November 2010. Chandra will be performing his latest hit 'Rehnuma' which is the title track for the Hollywood movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Chandra has been in great public demand; he recently delivered a mesmerising performance at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth games and will look to produce a similarly high calibre performance in Durban. 'Rehnuma' will also have a special music video featuring Sreeram and clips from the film. Vodacom, along with AA media, who also organised the Sonu Nigaam tour in March this year, are proud to present Chandra, along with the other finalists of the enthralling Indian Idols 2010 competition in concert.

"Vodacom is proud to be able to bring an international star such as Sreeram to entertain our Durban audience at a world class venue such as the ICC. This concert, with such a high profile line-up can only add to the glamour and prestige of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Indian people in South Africa," commented Alberts Breed, Managing Executive of Vodacom KZN.

Chandra, a professional singer from Hyderabad, studied Carnatic vocals at Sri Bhakta Ramadasa music college and got his first big break singing the title track for the critically acclaimed 2008 telegu comedy film Ashta Chamma. Since winning Indian Idols 5 he has become an even bigger star in the playback singing business, and is in demand all over the world to perform in his own inimitable style.

Chandra said:  "Indian Idols was a dream come true and now 'Rehnuma' in Narnia 3 is like magic unfolding right in front of my eyes. I am delighted, honoured and humbled to have this opportunity. Now, of course, it all depends on how well the audience accepts and responds to our endeavour. The final verdict, as always, is theirs."

Chandra will be joined on stage by fellow Indian Idols finalists Rakesh Maini, Naushad Ali Kawa and Chara Semwal.

All of these high profile performers, along with some exciting local talent, will be in Durban for one night only, on November 27 2010 at the International Convention Centre. With such an electrifying and varied line-up, it is sure to be a fun and music-filled evening for fans of all tastes.  This glamorous and professional event is not to be missed and promises to be a highlight on the 2010 social calendar.
