Chiefs Push iPassion to close the gap to occupy the top spot on the log

Wednesday, 16 February 2011

Kaizer Chiefs have a golden opportunity to close the gap on PSL league leaders, Orlando Pirates, when they face another of their traditional Soweto rivals, Moroka Swallows at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday evening.

The match had been scheduled for 5 February but was reportedly postponed as a result of the alleged theft of electric cables that left the FNB Stadium without power.

Should they emerge victorious from their game in hand, Amakhosi will move above Ajax Cape Town into second place, a mere two points behind the Buccaneers. Vladimir Vermezovic has instilled a never-say-die attitude into his players, as they showed in coming back from behind twice to beat Platinum Stars 3-2 in their last outing. It illustrated a belief that they have what it takes to bring the trophy back to Naturena.

Meanwhile Swallows, under the astute stewardship of experienced campaigner, Gordon Igesund, have improved markedly in recent weeks and have also grown in the belief that they will avoid relegation. Their hard-fought 1-0 triumph over fellow strugglers, Maritzburg United, revealed a strong desire to uphold the proud history of the club. However, even though experience has shown all over the world that derby games often don't go according to form, Chiefs should have too much class and firepower for the Birds as they look to build momentum ahead of the crucial, potentially title-deciding clash with Pirates in a 10 days' time.

"There is no shortage of incentive for Chiefs to go out and claim the three valuable points that will take them to within touching distance of Pirates. Neither should there be any lack of motivation on the part of those who have declared themselves ‘Amakhosi 4 Life'! When it comes to a derby, there is an extra edge to wanting Push iPassion to the next level to show your superiority over your neighbours, on the field and in the stands. We encourage fans to roll up in their numbers to join with Vodacom in creating an atmosphere fitting for a derby of this importance," said Enzo Scarcella, Vodacom's Managing Executive: Marketing.

On Tuesday the 15th of February the Vodacom roadshow hits the Sammy Marks square from 12h00 - 17h00.

At the stadium, great prizes are on offer to the fans judged by Vodacom to be the very best expression of Push iPassion. In addition, Vodacom will circulate authorised agents around the stands to assist supporters with hassle-free registration for M-PESA and RICA.

The match kicks off at Loftus Versfeld Stadium at 19h30.
