VODACOM Great Things We Did in 2019

In 2019, Vodacom Foundation launched the education ecosystem. In supporting the government’s comprehensive approach to delivering on the Education Vision: 2030, our education ecosystem supports the provision of digital literacy, skills and infrastructure through six focus pillars. Infrastructure upgrade at Divhani Community Crèche An example of Vodacom’s ECD centre upgrade and renovation achievements is the Divhani Community Crèche in Vhembe District, Limpopo, which provides day care for more than 40 children. The centre was in a dismal condition, with an inadequate and hazardous structure; the ceilings and pit latrines were in a state of disrepair that presented health and safety risks. Vodacom has subsequently upgraded the crèche infrastructure, which included replacing the pit latrines with appropriate sanitation and installing a borehole to ensure sustainable water supply. Education Ecosystem Pillar 1 Early Childhood Development Vodacom Foundation has committed to upgrade and renovate 15 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres with the objective of making a difference in the early stages of children’s lives. Thus far, Vodacom Foundation upgraded and renovated 10 ECD centres by providing the centres with ICT equipment and mobile libraries. Furthermore, Vodacom decommissioned pit latrines and replaced these with appropriate sanitation facilities in the ECD centres. Education ecosystem Case Study Sthandokuhle Daycare and Hlahlindlela High School In 2019, Vodacom partnered with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), UN Women, Nelson Mandela Foundation and Global Citizen, to introduce a new education ecosystem at the Sthandokuhle Daycare and Pre-School and Hlahlindlela High School in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal province. Vodacom upgraded the infrastructure of the high school and daycare, by replacing pit latrines with appropriate sanitation and installing a borehole to ensure sustainable water supply. Furthermore, Vodacom installed a trolley solution with tablet devices at the schools. Case Study 5 Vodacom Group Limited GREAT THINGS WE DID IN 2019
