Ikhaya Lethemba

In August 2006, Vodacom and the Gauteng Department of Community Safety opened the residential phase of Ikhaya Lethemba, a one-stop centre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg for the care of women and children impacted by violence. The Vodacom Foundation provided furniture and resources to the value of R1.6-million for three floors of the building that have become the temporary home for up to 140 women and children fleeing abuse.

Women and Men Against Child Abuse

Women and Men Against Child Abuse was founded in 1997 to address the spiralling increase in incidents of child abuse in South Africa. WMACA's first Kidz Clinic opened its doors in Boksburg in June 2000, and the Kidz Clinic in Alexandra was opened in December 2003. The Kidz Clinics are one-stop child-friendly centres providing free medical and psychological treatment for children who have been sexually, physically and emotionally violated. Vodacom's support of WMACA and its Kidz Clinics dates back to 2002 when an initial donation was made to the Boksburg clinic. In December 2003, the Foundation provided funding for the first year of operation for the Alexandra clinic. The Vodacom Foundation has also supported WMACA's roadshow through which it has raised awareness of child abuse.
