Vodacom staff volunteers clock 2566 hours
Monday, 19 July 2010

We did it!

Vodacom's decision to host their annual Vodacom Foundation Day, in celebration of Mandela Day, probably ranks amongst their wisest moves, as instead of hosting two separate events, the collective spirit of volunteerism gave added impetus to the company's employee volunteer programme.

13 sites, 450 volunteers,2566 hours!

A total of 450 volunteers painted the country blue as staff members and their family heeded the call to dedicate Sunday, 18 July 2010, to supporting the various organisations, who receive Vodacom support, to help them implement their numerous community-upliftment programmes, ranging from feeding children, erecting vegi-tunnels and handing over goodies, amongst other activities.

Judging by favourable comments from the organisations who went out of their way to host the influx of staff members, volunteering will never be the same again.

The sense of fulfilment, evident from the comments of the volunteers, makes one proud to be South African.

As a company we are pleased to be associated with so many organisations that do such good work. We are particularly proud of our staff members for demonstrating that Vodacom cares.

Says Lynda Bleazard from Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Centre for Africa: "VIVA Vodacom Yebo Heroes for coming to plant a vegetable garden at our Walter Sisulu House for mothers and children - you created a living tribute to Nelson Mandela."

In response to that, this is what some of the staff members had to say: "Thank you Mr Mandela for imploring us to unleash the goodness within ourselves!

May everyday be a Mandela Day, indeed."
