Education

An investment in education is an investment in a sustainable future and Vodacom's education projects reflect our strong commitment to complementing government's efforts in this important national imperative.

Vodacom invests in education to equip young people with the skills they need to compete in a global economy. The education focus is divided into infrastructure/equipment and training. Examples of infrastructure/equipment range from building new schools (for example, the Cangci Comprehensive High School, in the Eastern Cape, and the Freedom Park School in Rustenburg) to a multi-media centre at the University of Fort Hare and computer centres in schools throughout South Africa. Training includes Vodacom's extensive bursary scheme and the Vodacom CEO Scholarship Awards, among others.

Health

The healthcare and welfare services provided by the government cannot always reach all people across our communities. Vodacom tries to fill this gap by helping to provide communities with some of the services they require by investing in quality health initiatives. The Health focus is divided into ICT/other resources, and corrective surgery. Examples of ICT/other resources are Cell-Life and the mobile clinics in the Eastern Cape. Vodacom Smile Week, the Netcare Vodacom Sight For You project and the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Centre for Africa are examples of initiatives in the corrective surgery category in which Vodacom invests.

Security

Security is a secondary focus of the Vodacom Foundation. Crime and other forms of abuse have come to characterise the lives of the most vulnerable South Africans, particularly women and children. During the past three years, Vodacom primarily invested in projects that address issues of safety and security. Projects supported include the Kidz Clinics of Women and Men Against Child Abuse, and the Committee for Crime Prevention.
