Personal solutions
Personal cellular solutions were our first introduction to the wonderful world of mobile. Although they were our first taste of being on and the go and connected at the same time, many of the most cutting-edge mobile applications continue to evolve within this category.
Voice
Mobile voice services are the largest contributor to Vodacom’s revenue and include revenue generated by customers from outgoing and incoming traffic, international roaming, incoming visitor roaming, national roaming and carrier voice services.
Mobile Messaging
Vodacom offers its customers mobile messaging services such as SMS, MMS, premium rate SMS (including USSD) and MMS, Short Voice Service (SVS), bulk SMS and MMS and WAP services.
Data
Vodacom offers broadband connectivity and Internet access services in all the countries in which it operates, using various technologies such as, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA 1.8, HSDPA 3.6, HSDPA 7.2, HSUPA, WiMAX and VSAT.
Roaming
Thanks to Vodacom’s partnership with Vodafone right from the early stages of mobile technology’s entry into South Africa, our customers have always enjoyed the widest international roaming footprint.
Being able to stay connected on one’s own cellphone number while travelling abroad must surely be one of life’s little wonders. Vodacom International Roaming means you can conveniently make and receive calls, send and receive SMSs, and access the Internet, your email and your company’s network while you travel.
Predictable and transparent roaming costs mean there are no nasty surprises when you return home.
M-PESA
M-PESA is Vodafone’s proprietary mobile money transfer service and was launched commercially by Safaricom in Kenya in 2007 and by Vodacom in Tanzania a year later.
The product became a runaway success story almost in the vein of prepaid cellular. Within three years, more than 10 million mobile customers in East Africa were using the service to send money, pay bills, buy airtime and much more.
Vodacom has now partnered with Nedbank to offer the benefits of true mobile banking to South Africans. Vodacom M-PESA by Nedbank Mobile Money is helping to bring marginalised South Africans into the economic mainstream, with all the associated benefits for the country.
