Portia joined Vodacom in March 2010 as Chief Officer: Public Affairs and Sustainability. She started her career in journalism where she worked at the Mail and Guardian, SABC and Sowetan. In the public sector she led teams in the national Department of Education and Government Communication and Information System in the Presidency. Portia spent five years as a General Manager at MTN Group. She has been CEO of environmental management company Tedcor and Nehanda Group, a women’s investment company of which she remains a non-executive board member. She is a non-executive director of Ga Ra Geng Travel. In November 2010 she was appointed as Chief Officer: Corporate Affairs and a member of the Vodacom Group Executive Committee.
