Terms and conditions

By donating using Red Alert you accept these terms and conditions:

 

1. Red Alert is an initiative of The Vodacom Foundation Trust (“Trust”) in association with Vodacom (Proprietary) Limited ("Vodacom").  Red Alert will enable you to make a donation of to an identified charity in response to specific appeals as announced from time to time. All decisions regarding which charities and appeals to support shall be determined by the trustees of the Trust

  • Red Alert is available to you if you are a Vodacom subscriber - Prepaid, Post Paid, and Top Up

  • You can access Red Alert either by sending an SMS with a keyword, or by using the USSD channel.
4. If you send an SMS to donate, your donation will be set at R10.00; if you use an USSD channel you can donate amounts denominated in R5.00, R10.00, or R20.00.

  • When you agree to make your donation, the amount you wish to pay to the selected charity is deducted from your Prepaid credit or added to your Contract account and transferred by Vodacom to the Trust’s trust bank account administered by Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Incorporated Attorneys ("CDH").  The donations will then be transferred by CDH to the selected charity (within the timescales as may be agreed between the Trust and the relevant recipient charity).

  • Neither Vodacom, the Trust, CDH nor any of their respective agents will deduct or retain any portion of the donation you make using Red Alert, nor receive any commission, interest, rebate or other profit on any donation.
7.
  • The only charge to you is the amount of your donation, which will be received by the recipient charity in its entirety. No refunds of donations are available.
8.
  • You may make more than one donation to any given appeal.
9.
  • No announcement or recognition can be given to individual donations and no certificates recording such donations, i.e. for income tax deduction purposes, can be given.
10.
  • The Trust may, but shall not be obliged to, announce or recognise individual donations; however no certificates recording such donations, i.e. for income tax deduction purposes, can be given.
11.
  •  If the donation cannot be paid to, or is declined by, the designated recipient charity for whatever reason, the Trust shall be entitled to receive and coordinate the application of those funds for general charitable purposes.  In doing so, the trustees may consider applying such funds to a cause or organisation with a substantially similar object or purpose as the original donation.  By making a donation, you thereby consent to the application of your donation for general charitable purposes in such circumstances.
12. These terms and conditions may be updated or amended from time to time.  Please read the latest version each time you make a donation.

  • A Red Alert campaign is initiated when the minimum criteria has been met
