About us
Who are we?
All Vodacom’s charitable contributions are handled by the Vodacom Foundation, a division of the company, which was established in 1999 to act as a one-stop shop for the company’s social investment activities by leveraging off the power of Vodacom’s mobile and Information Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities.
The Vodacom Foundation derives its mandate from a Charter developed by the Vodacom (Pty) Ltd Board. An 8 person Vodacom Foundation Advisory Board oversees the Vodacom Foundation’s community upliftment programmes.
What we do
The Vodacom Foundation ensures that we help others in the most efficient and structured way. Simply giving away money in a vacuum is seldom a constructive way of giving people the tools to improve their lives in the long run. In the eleven years of its existence, the Foundation has contributed more than R560 million in a sustainable way towards a wide range of worthy community causes, led by reputable non-profit organisations. This has been achieved through fostering close relationships with many leading and respected non-profit organisations, which have helped develop innovative programmes in the area of education and health.
Vodacom Change the World
The recently launched Vodacom Change the World is a groundbreaking programme that empowers people with the unique opportunity to make a positive change within a charitable organisation.
Vodacom Change the World affords up to 12 South Africans per annum the unique opportunity to spend an extended period of their time at a charitable organisation (NGO) that would benefit most from their expertise, and get paid for it! By providing funding to skilled people with a passion to work for charity, it provides new talent into the NGO sector. Whilst this is largely an initiative aimed at our customers to make a difference, Vodacom employees are not excluded from participating.
Vodacom Volunteers
What our financial investment doesn’t include, is the commitment, time and energy of the Vodacom staff members. The Vodacom Volunteers programme was established to create a platform for employees to share their skills, time, goods and cash donations with the community. By creating practical opportunities within a secure environment, Vodacom employees are offered convenient and collaborative ways of supporting the needy through 16 hours paid leave per annum to perform volunteer activities. Since 2006, some 2250 Vodacom employees have participated and helped complete about 340 projects. They have also contributed more than R2, 2 million through Vodacom Payroll Giving to 18 charitable organisations.
